I recently saw a great idea of using an old wooden ladder as a quilt rack. It was surprisingly hard to find an old ladder that didn't cost over $100. After searching Craigslist and calling antique stores, my cousin informed me that he had my Grandpa's old wooden extension ladder. Perfect! Not only was is just what I was looking for but now we have a family heirloom in the living room.
This is half of the ladder cut to stand a little over five feet tall. Kevin sanded it up and cleaned it for me. I think it looks great in here and certainly does a nice job displaying my quilts.

Do you know if any of these old ladders have lead paint on them or lead varnish? I am thinking of doing these same but was concerned about sanding.
