Beginning Week 6

Many of you may want to know, what's happening during week 6 of a pregnancy? Well, the formations of the lungs, jaw, nose, and palate have begun. The hand and feet buds have webbed-like structures that will become the fingers and toes. The brain is continuing to form into its complex parts. Of course, the baby is about a ½ inch in length; not very big at all. (See photo at right. Not my baby, but gives you a visual.)

I still feel really good and have been eating very healthy all week long. Kevin, Griffin and I drove to Peoria to visit with one of his close friends from college. When at the bar, I ordered a N/A beer. Did you know that O'Dules Amber has Less Than .5% alcohol by volume? I opted for lemonade instead. Not worth the risk in the first few crucial weeks.

Saturday we were outside all day long. I got lots of sun and important Vitamin C for the baby. That was the first time all summer we've really been outside like that, it was a relaxing afternoon.

Spreading the news.
On Friday I also called my godmother, Maureen. She's always been very important in my life and has been a part of all the milestones; including MY birth. She was thrilled, as I am pretty sure she was expecting a call very soon. Her oldest is actually due with her second in 4 weeks!

As always, stay tuned. We'll see what this week has in store for us.

information overload

Last night on my way home from work, I stopped at the library-- my new favorite place. Besides reading books for free, they have a great DVD collection. However, this trip I had only one thing in mind, BABY BOOKS! This is one book I picked up, "You & Your Baby - Pregnancy." Yes, I had to start reading it, as I am in my 5th week already. It has some great color photos and a lot of detailed information.

I'm sure many first mom's imerse themselves in loads of information. When you are feeling excited, filled with joy, happiness, and also quite nervous, getting as much information as you can seems comforting. Kevin is still super nervous and I reassured him that it's ok!! We will be going through a lot of changes right now. When he's calm, I'll be the nervous one.

So, for the time being, I will be reading books upon books upon magazines about having a baby. It's one fun and one sane thing I can do, on my own. When a neat detail arises, I share it with Kevin. I think for the most part, he's still shocked, but a happy shocked.

Update: Kevin will be building the crib out of white oak.

double the fun!

This morning, I revealed my good news to the women I work with. Wouldn't you know, Sarah shouted "Thank God! Me too!" We are almost exactly on the same schedule for having a baby. Both of our due dates are at the end of February. Now, the chances of us having a baby at the same time is slim, but we'll be following the same calendar. This will be Sarah's second baby, so she'll have lots of fun info to fill me in on. What an exciting year at work it will be. Now my mom will just have to figure out how to staff the office! Think we can close the whole office for a year? Take some time off?

I am also seeing the doctor for my first appointment on July 16th - an 8 week check-up.

spread the good news.

A baby is God's opinion that the world should go on. - Carl Sandburg

Today was a good weekend because we got to tell our close family. My husband, Kevin, was anticipating the news and was so excited. Ha! Of course, now next to the joy is fear, questions, uncertainty, and happiness. We both knew it was time to start a family and luckily, it's starting right now.

Secondly, we called my parents. And you thought mom would be excited-- my dad was overwhelmingly head-over-heals happy! I think he's been waiting for me to have children since I was born. They both remind me that they had children so they could have grandchildren. Well, now is their chance. It's happening. My sister was also in the room with my parents and she cannot wait to be an Aunt. Katie will be the best Aunt. My brother found out today, as did Kevin's parents.

Roy and Elaine were out of town all weekend so we had to wait until they got home. To make Kevin feel included, he told his parents himself. They both laughed and screamed on the phone and wanted to know when they could come down next. I don't doubt our children will have the best, most loving grandparents that any child has ever had. I also feel blessed that my mom-in-law is a baby nurse. How perfect.

I will be calling to make an appointment with the doctor tomorrow.

We also bought a leather wing-back chair for the nursery today. Delivery in 10 weeks. Kevin also needs to start making our crib. Yes, my handy husband will be building a beautiful crib for our children. That is most exciting of all.

We are not telling everybody immediately. It's not proper and we just need a few more weeks. Tomorrow, however, I will tell the girls I work with and my grandmother. Let's hope they can keep a secret.

news just in, unofficially.

Holy crap! I can't beleive it. Third time must be a charm! Right now, you are the first to know that we might be having a baby. Yep, you got it. My pregnancy test was a "+". Earlier in the week, I took a test and it was extremely questionable. However, if you look below, I hardly think there is a question at hand.

Now, the reason I couldn't wait any longer is because I really wanted to have a beer tonight. And not knowing made me feel extremely guilty. It's too bad my last drink was a lousy one.

But, it's worth it. So, unofficially, Kevin and I are having a baby! Now I just have to wait a few days and then make a doctor's apponitment.

Stay tuned, there is a lot more where this blog is headed!

3rd time is a charm, right?

Well, we are going on the third month of baby time. After reading countless magazines, blogs and books, I think I have it down. Last month, the heavens were torturing me with the waiting period. Luckily, it all happened for a reason (there was a vacation planned). I am really crossing my fingers on this month's trying. That would give me a March baby; I'll be done with school and winter would be over. What a perfect time! Hopefully, the Man above thinks the same.
