Puppies, Oh my!

This past summer, Kevin and I decided to get two Golden Retriever puppies. We went to visit the breeder and knew that we could expect to take them home at Thanksgiving. Wow, were we wrong.

Copper, the mother, went in to heat extremely late. The puppies were born January 3 (the day after Kevin's birthday) and we can expect to take them home March 3. Only three months after the date we originally planned on.

What to name them? Griffin and Zoe. We didn't realize how hard it would be to agree upon dog names. Especially the female! Everyone kept warning us, "Don't give them one of your kid names!" Really? I never thought of that. Don't people name their dogs and kids the same name? Then when you call, at least they all come at once! How easy would that be?

Anyways, Kevin and I are finally going to visit them. You can always check out more photos at www.flickr.com/photos/erikaoline. Finally, more additions to the expanding family.

iMac ShmyMac

You know those stupid Macintosh commercials with the retarded PC guy? Yeah, that's totally me on a bad day. But, at work today, I just got the brand spankin' new iMac. Not only did it clear up desk space, but it's totally rad. And coming from a PC person, that means a lot.

The features are just awesome. I still don't have right-click capabilities, but I suppose I don't really need that at work seeing as I only retype information and play with photos.

Speaking of photos, I also have a camera, yep, right in front. Surprisingly it takes pretty good photos. This is also far faster than the old Mac I had (and it took up most of my desk). So, for time being, I guess this whole Mac thing will suffice. Luckily I still get to go home to my good 'ol PC.

to resolute or not?

Of course it's tradition to create a New Year's resolution at the strike of midnight. The community as a whole gets into it as well.

Way back when, the first day of a the Babylonian year was considered to be March 23, and a common resolution was their custom of returning something borrowed from a friend over the course of the previous year. A common resolution in ancient Rome was to seek forgiveness from enemies of previous years. Among the many customs associated with the Chinese New Year is housecleaning, frequently found today on lists of the most common New Year’s resolutions worldwide.

With all the junk we now face, most people resolute to drink less, eat healthier and start exercising. If you've ever been to the YMCA at 5pm the 2 weeks after New Years, then you know every one had the same idea on their minds.

This year, I'm not making any resolutions. Why should I promise to do things that I should already be doing. Eat healthier, be nicer... shouldn't I already be doing this? Resolutions are a bad excuse to do a good thing. And, unless you physically write yours down for all to see, how many of us actually follow-through with them into the next year. (YMCA traffic usually dies down late-February and early-March.)

Instead of a New Year's resolution, I think I'll just start being nicer and eating healthier. ;o)
